The Forum Timeout Issue is finally resolved

In some cases the users were losing the session and the forum was asking them to login again. It was very annoying and sometimes was leading to the loss of the posting that the users were typing.

The issue was related to the host settings and application pool reset. For those who interested here is a quote from one posting that we found on the Internet: we were getting this issue when the application pool would restart and members were online (either from a timed recycle in IIS or an app pool crash. In our case, we hardcoded a set of machine keys and decryption keys into our web.config and this solved the viewstate issues in YAF. Research web.config machinekey values in google for information on how to set them.

Here is the tool that can be used to generate the keys: Free Online MachineKey Generator

The forum works much better now, it's more stable and lets the user keep the session open for a very long time. Since the session can be kept open for a very very long period it is recommended to logout before you leave your computer. It's not enough just to close your browser. The session with your credentials will be automatically restored if you selected to keep you logged in on the login page and anybody who has access to your computer can post any message pretending that he or she is you.
